Uploaded / resized PNG: black background instead of transparency

So, locally everything works, but when I sync the site live, my PNG file is having transparency replaced with black. Where should I look for a fix? Resizing library (switch GD with IM, or whatever is set as default)? Could it be a bad IM/GD version?

Yes, that is likely a bad version of that library. GD is the default, you could switch to IM if available.
