Switching language of content AND kirby system panel together

hello,

the multi-language option of Kirby and in the Kirby panel is really great.

But I have a question: as far as I understand, it it possible to switch language in the panel to translate the content (after I added a new language with a (e.g.) “en.php”) - but it is not possible to switch the language of the panel or to be more precise the language of the Admin or user at the same time?

I am asking because the labels of fields are not translated or switched to the choosen language in the panel: e.g. the label of the field “caption” translates to the German “Bildunterschrift” not before I switch the admin/user language in the system preference of Kirby, right?

Is there a way to change both simultaneously?

No, these are two different things. The interface language depends on the user language, not the translation you are currently editing.

IMO, switching the user interface language when switching translations doesn’t really make sense. Assuming I’m an editor and I speak English, but not Arabic and Chinese, but I’m supposed to make replace some images in all translations. I’d probably be pretty confused to suddenly have a Chinese/Arabic interface which I don’t understand.

For option names in select fields, you can use a workaround: PHP-based blueprints | Kirby CMS. The same approach would also be possible for field labels, of course.
