MAMP and Kirby getting started

Okay I have not been able to get Kirby (Plainkit download) to work using Terminal as per the Getting Started video (Quickstart | Kirby CMS) on a local server on my Mac.

So I have downloaded a free trial of something called MAMP (as per suggestion here https://getkirby.com/docs/cookbook/setup/development-environment).

I’ve opened the MAMP app. Now what do I do?

Once MAMP is open, you will have to point the document root to your project folder (path to plainkit-main in your case).

After that is done, you press the Start button in the upper right of the dialog window to start the server.

Then visit http://localhost:8888 which is the default port I think.
