Maybe its common sense, but in all the documentation about the changes in the new release, I cannot find a simple how-to-upgrade.

That’s the general way to update, you have to keep in mind breaking changes that might result from plugins, your own custom code etc.

Please turn on debug in your config to see what the error actually is:
Kirby 3.6 supports PHP 7.4 and 8.0 as stated in the release notes (breaking changes). It is likely that you are still on PHP 7.3, so please update PHP. We recommend PHP 8.0.
