Hello kirbys,
I want to do a website for a musician. She plays in multiple bands Projects. Each bands release Records and has a News section like a blog.
The home page will show the Bands and the News and the global Discography.
Projects
– Band 1
— Record 1
— Record 2
— News 1
— News 2
– Band 2
— Record 3
— News 3
Discography
– Record 1
– Record 2
– Record 3
News
– News 1
– News 2
– News 3
About
It makes sense for me, does it make sense to have two differents subpages for News and Record in each Project? Or is it better to have a page for the Discography and News and add a related page in each Band page?
Thank you in advance for your advice
You could keep it as 3 main pages, Projects, Discography and News these would then show all relative data, all bands, all records and all news.
Then you could either:
A) Show all the relative records and news for that band on it’s page, pulled from main top level pages or
B) Have individual Discography and News pages under each band which would do the same, pull content from the relevant top level pages.
Option A
Projects
– Band 1
– Band 2
– Band 3
Discography (include a filter by Band)
– Record 1
– Record 2
– Record 3
News (include a filter by Band)
– News 1
– News 2
– News 3
– News 4
Option B
Projects
– Band 1
— Band 1 News
— Band 1 Discography
– Band 2
— Band 2 News
— Band 2 Discography
– Band 3
— Band 3 News
— Band 3 Discography
Discography (include a filter by Band)
– Record 1
– Record 2
– Record 3
News (include a filter by Band)
– News 1
– News 2
– News 3
– News 4
Either way you won’t get duplicated content
Hope that helps and hasn’t confused you more.
Thank you! I think option B is what I want to achieve but it is still not clear, and I lack the technical ease…
If I understand this solution, each projet has a News subpage and a Record subpage. Is that right?
Also, is there a way for the musician to have a starting page in the panel where she can sees, in addition to her projects pages (with a section projects), the subpages sections for News and Records where she can create new posts and choose to which band the post is linked?
Sorry for the lack of precision, I find it difficult to understand how to organize those subpages.
Hm, from my point of view, option B shouldn’t have the additional Discography and news pages , that’s a bit contradictory. So B should probably just look like this
Projects
– Band 1
— Band 1 News
— Band 1 Discography
– Band 2
— Band 2 News
— Band 2 Discography
– Band 3
— Band 3 News
— Band 3 Discography
Then if you want to show all news or records anywhere, you’d have to pull them from the different projects.
IN case of variant A, each news or discography subpages would have a checkbox/select indication which band it belongs to, so that on the band page, it can be filtered by that field.
But I think it really depends on your focus/ease of use for the user what would be the best option of the two.
Yes, if you do it like in variant A, then it would be easy to show records and posts as children of their respective parents.
In variant B, that wouldn’t make that much sense to show the subpages of each project on the dashboard.
Thank you texnixe, I will go with the proposal B as it looks more logic for me and more achievable too. I will first try to create the 2 subpages. Thanks
