Bought two! Thank you @bastianallgeier
On this page Kirby 5 | Kirby CMS it says " Kirby 5 is a free upgrade for everyone with a valid Kirby Basic or Enterprise license."
How do we get the free upgrade?
There doesn’t appear to be any info on this page about a free upgrade. I’ve logged in to my License Hub and there isn’t any info there either.
A free upgrade sounds generous?
Sometimes we really miss the forest for the trees. The license just works with Kirby 5. You don’t need to upgrade anything. That’s why we thought we don’t have to mention that at all.
Sorry, I don’t understand. Is Kirby 5 a free upgrade (from Kirby 4)?
Yes, our license model has changed with Kirby 4. When you buy a Kirby license you get 3 years of free upgrades included with the license: No matter if we call it Kirby 5, 6 or 10. After those three years, you can then choose to buy an extension of those free upgrades for another three years or you can keep the latest stable included version at that point in time and keep it for as long as you want.
Hey, sounds great. Thanks. How do I upgrade to 5?
I’ve clicked the link to ‘upgrade’ but that takes me through to the Buy page…
That’s what I meant above. You don’t need to upgrade a Kirby 4 license. You can upgrade Kirby and your license will still work.
So to get/upgrade to Kirby 5, do I do the following:
Download the trial Kirby 5 plainkit (Try | Kirby CMS)
Replace the old Kirby folder with the new Kirby (5) folder and then in the panel re-enter my license?
These are the steps you should follow when updating from K4 to K5:
and then in the panel re-enter my license?
If you have already registered your license via the Hub and followed the further steps, you do not need to re-enter your license after updating from K4 to K5. The license file remains in the confiq folder. Please note that your local environment will indicate that your license has not yet been registered. This is because your license is assigned to a fixed domain.
Strangely the article ‘Update to Kirby 5’ doesn’t actually say how to update to Kirby 5.
And the link on this page – Kirby 5 | Kirby CMS – which says " Kirby 5 is a free upgrade for everyone with a valid Kirby Basic or Enterprise license." just takes the user to the Buy page, which isn’t helpful.
How do we upgrade / update to Kirby 5?
Sorry for that. There was already a link to the general update instructions, but it was a broken link that pointed to the same page. This is now fixed:
