Spring Cleaning Announcements

Hey everyone,

today is Spring cleaning day. :broom:

5.3.3

We have a small patch release for you: https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/releases/tag/5.3.3

This release is completely optional if you don’t suffer from the mentioned issues, but those who do will probably appreciate it

Hub Login

We’ve refactored our License hub login. We’ve not been very happy with our email + order id solution for a while now and switched to a more convenient and secure solution. You can now login with your email address and the hub will send you a simple login code. You and us will finally no longer need to look up order ids :tada:

EULA changes

https://getkirby.com/license/

It probably went under the radar for most of you, but we’ve added a clause a while ago that Kirby will be converted to full open source (MIT) if we should ever fail to continue as a company (going bankrupt, dying, etc. – the usual happy stuff). We have no plans of letting that happen, but we think that it’s only fair to already mention it. It sucks when a company behind a system that you rely on no longer exists, or no longer operates properly, and the system just starts to break apart. We’ve received a suggestion on Mastodon to clarify this some more, and we’ve now added a paragraph that this will happen as soon as Kirby is no longer actively maintained and there are no more stable releases from us within a year. This should give you some extra insurance for this case.

We’ve also clarified our terms around license reassignment and license activation some more. You can find a summary of changes here: https://getkirby.com/license/2026-03-26/summary and the diff here: https://getkirby.com/license/2026-03-26?diff Please, let us know if you have any questions.

Upgrade prices

We’ve been asked a couple of times for our planned upgrade prices after three years. We’ve added them to our FAQs a while ago, but wanted to announce them more officially over here as well: Upgrades for three more years are currently €59 (excl. VAT) for Kirby Basic and €249 (excl. VAT) for Kirby Enterprise.

Discontinued Gratitude & Pay-What-You-Can model for upgrades

We also wanted to announce that we are going to discontinue our upgrade slider and gratitude upgrades for old, inactive licenses. You can still make use of both until July 31st 2026. Afterwards, we will switch to our recommended upgrade prices for all inactive Kirby 1,2 and 3 licenses. We wanted to give you plenty of time before we make this change. Of course, once you’ve upgraded a license you don’t have to use it right away. It can stay inactive afterwards, but we really need to simplify our license and upgrade system moving forward and we hope you understand.
