Kirby website 'not secure'

Hi community,

next to my url in safari it says my kirby site is ‘not secure’. Most file permissions are indeed set to 777 or 755. Which one do you recommend?

What else can I do to secure my site?

Lauren

This is referring to an SSL certificate not being installed on the server, it’s not a Kirby issue. You would need to talk to your host. Some will charge a fee, but often you can get one for free via Let’s Encrypt if your provider supports it. Contact your hosting provider.

File and folder permissions are not related. These limit what someone can do if the files do not belong to them.

Folder permissions should be 755, file permissions 644. Do not use 777.

But as @jimbobrjames already pointed out, the reason why your browser gives you that message is the missing SSL certificate.
