Kirby 6.0.0-alpha.3 & 5.5.1

,

Hey everyone,

All aboard the release train! :steam_locomotive:

Kirby 6.0.0-alpha.3

We finally wrapped up the next alpha for Kirby 6: https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/releases/tag/6.0.0-alpha.3

For those who missed it, Kirby 6 already has some really nice updates coming …

  • :woman_lifting_weights: Our big Vue 3 migration
  • :writing_hand: A brand new live editor
  • :page_facing_up: Simplified blueprint definition
  • :pancakes: New template stacks
  • :radio_button: New buttons field

… and since alpha 3

  • :rotating_light: All security updates from our recent releases
  • :closed_lock_with_key: A shiny, new security drawer for all user auth settings
  • :key: A big general authentication overhaul with tons of improvements and new possibilities for plugins (passkey is coming …)
  • :identification_card: Custom passwords policy settings for all users to enforce stronger passwords
  • :woman_artist: New Icons and components
  • :race_car: Various performance improvements
  • :magic_wand: A huge Panel JS to Typescript migration
  • :bug: Tons of additional bug fixes and improvements

We plan to release v6 in the second half of 2026 (which already started when I think about it). That’s vague, we know. But we keep you updated.

Kirby 6 will be a free upgrade for all Kirby 4 and 5 license holders.

You can find all changes in our changelog file: https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/blob/6.0.0-alpha.3/CHANGELOG.md

Kirby 5.5.1

We’ve also released a patch release for 5.5.0, smashing some annoying bugs: https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/releases/tag/5.5.1

Btw: We didn’t run a release candidate phase for 5.5.0 this time. We feel like most of you don’t really have the time to test those release candidates anyway and almost all bugs get reported after stable releases. Let us know if you think that we should bring them back though.
