Kirby 5.0.0-alpha.4 with new changes preview system

Hey everyone,

we are finally ready to release the next alpha for Kirby 5. We have been working on this release for a long, long time. Behind the scenes, this might have been one of our most challenging tasks in quite a while. This alpha includes a feature that took almost 2 years and has more than 250 votes on Nolt. It was conceptually challenging, but it was also really hard to integrate it deep into the core, plan ahead for future ideas and yet not destroy everything around it along the way :slightly_smiling_face:

With this release, we are introducing our brand new changes preview system: https://getkirby.com/buzz/v5-alpha

As an editor, it’s finally possible to preview unsaved changes and compare them with the latest published version before you hit β€œSave”. You can share a link to your changed version and discuss the edits with other people in the team or with your clients.

Your entire team can now also see the pages, files and accounts that have unsaved changes by other users in the changes dialog. You can preview changes while someone else is still working on them and our locking system is now also built on top of all of this. The user experience is benefitting massively.

With this alpha, we also have to talk about a small elephant in the room. We are delayed :slightly_smiling_face: We won’t be able to finish v5 until December. We currently plan for early next year. But it was really important for us to get this right and we think we might see a couple related issues once you are testing it.

There’s so much more to talk about when it comes to the technical aspects of this set of new features. We have added some more details about it here: https://getkirby.com/buzz/v5-alpha#features__versions-preview-your-changes But for now, we are really just excited to hear what you think about it.
