Herd One-Click Installer

Hey everyone,

I just got notified by the folks behind Herd that they now have a one-click installer in their latest version. I think it’s absolutely fantastic and so I just wanted to share it with you. If you are a Herd user, you need to upgrade to the latest version, but then you can simply install Kirby via direct link.

Here’s a quick installer for our Starterkit:
https://herd.laravel.com/new/getkirby/starterkit

And here’s one for the Plainkit:
https://herd.laravel.com/new/getkirby/plainkit

It works for other Github repos with Kirby installations as well.

How do i get this inside of herd it self?
When I click create new site in herd, I do not see the kirby options.

I am running 1.18.
Is this is herd pro feature?

There is no Kirby option. In the window that opens, you must select the target location where the kit will be copied. Herd will install the kit in the folder you selected.

To add to the above, this is not possible from within Herd (there you can only choose to create a new Laravel project), you need to use the links. It would be nice if they added an option to install Kirby from the Add site dialog in the future.

It sure would be nice if they added that feature—honestly, that’s why I was so surprised it isn’t one already.

I talked to one of the Herd devs on Discord recently and he told me that you can in fact use the “New Laravel Project” button to create a Kirby project. It’s not obvious to look for it there, but if you click on that you can choose “Custom Starter Kit” on the second screen.

You can then fill in the starter kit package name manually, which simply points to a composer package and can also be anything else.

I’ve already told him that this should really not be hidden behind the Laravel button and should be on the first screen in my opinion. But it sounded like they plan to make changes to that part of the interface anyway.
