I’m trying to make a fully accessible site and was hoping to be able to upload .srt (subtitle) files in order to make that happen. I’m getting the error that the media type cannot be detected - is there a way to get around this?

Without modifying the source code or uploading the file via ftp or the frontend or some custom routine for the Panel, maybe not. Could you open an issue on GitHub, please.
I managed to add ‘srt’ to the mime.php file and it seemed to work fine!
Yes, but that’s not a good idea because your changes will be overwritten when you update
