What is the function of the 'Change Template' button in the panel?

In every situation I can recall, the ‘Change Template’ button is greyed out when accessed in the panel:

I’m sorry if it is an obvious question but I haven’t been able to find any information regarding its purpose or use case, only that changing the template should be done by manually renaming the filename, and that generally it can’t/shouldn’t be done due to potential data loss.

I have multiple templates available in /site/templates (and corresponding blueprints in case it matters)

So I was wondering: under which circumstances is this button is active/functional and what it does?

The changeTemplate function is disabled by default and can be enabled by setting a set of possible templates to change to in the page blueprint options.

The only thing I might suggest is adjusting the wording in the documentation so this shows up in search results (Switching Template vs Change Template) - I just wasn’t able to find this through searching site:getkirby.com "change template"
