Hi all,
I used Laragon on Windows for years and loved it. Then I moved to Apple and couldn’t find anything that felt the same. DDEV and the others are good tools, but it feels overkill: containers, config layers, a CLI, or just bloated.
Kirby got me used to a different idea — it’s just files and folders. I wanted my local environment to be the same, so I built one: Wharf.
It runs plain nginx, Apache and PHP as normal processes on the machine, no Docker and no VM. A folder is a project, it stays where it lives, and it’s reachable at something like my-kirby-site.localhost.
I also wanted to build a native desktop application with Flutter anyway, so the app is Flutter on top of a small Go daemon. With a bit of help from Claude it got further than I expected the last weekends.
There are downloads for macOS, Windows and Linux now, but it’s young software — bear with me on bugs.

Maybe it’s useful to some of you or you want to try something new!? I’d be happy for any feedback, including what’s missing or plainly wrong! Like typical … Currently it is working on my machines ![]()
