Website performance in Mainland China

Hello,

I’m developing a website for Beijing and Toronto-based studio on Kirby CMS (already live at https://meat.studio). Our goal is to make this website performant across the globe, or more specifically, in North America and within Mainland China.

I’ve encountered a challenge in achieving fast loading times, as it seems we must make a choice between prioritizing China or the rest of the world.

At present, our website is hosted on DigitalOcean, utilizing a server in Singapore. We’ve implemented Imgix as a CDN to efficiently deliver image and video assets. However, as you may have guessed, the website is very slow in China due to the Great Firewall.

Has anyone dealt with similar challenges in improving website load times in China? We’ve contemplated to use a local Chinese CDN, such as Alibaba Cloud or Tencent Cloud, but we’re concerned this might adversely affect performance for users outside of China.
I’m also not sure about the setup for integrating this in a Kirby website.

Any insights or guidance on resolving these load time issues would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Matthias
