How to handle locale variations with automatic language detection?

Kirby can automatically detect a users language. I’m assuming it just checks the browser language.

How does it handle different locale variations? For example some users might have fr_FR, others fr_BE and others simply fr.

If I set the locale to fr, would Kirby automatically recognize all variations of French? You can define detailed settings but it’s not clearly specified in the language docs what these do.

From looking at the source code, I take it that automatic language detection only looks at the first part of the language code, thus ignoring the variations.

Sounds like a good solution. One thing less to worry about!
