Blank pages with fresh install

Hi, just downloaded the starter pack, put it in a subfolder on my server, but I only get a black page when accessing the subfolder. When I try to access subfolder/panel, I’m being redirected to my actual site (domain.tld/index.html)

I suspect it’s a .htaccess thing, but I’m really not familiar with those.

Any takers?

most likely htaccess… if you check your server error logs you might find a clue (generally error 500)

try commenting

# RewriteBase /

to 

RewriteBase /

or

RewriteBase /subfolder/

depending on where your installation is located at.
but also there can be other errors, e.g. symlinks or whatever.

unfortunately no luck. You’re right about the error code: “GET /k/ HTTP/1.1” 500 180 “-”

Is there anything else I could try?

Does the .htaccess have any effect at all? Please add some random characters at the top. You should then get an error when trying to open the homepage.

Yes, I’ve added some gibberish and now I’m getting an Internal Server Error message.

You dont say what kind of hosting you have? Whos your host? What PHP does it have?

Is there an .htaccess file in the root directory that might interfere?

Ha! Turns out the hoster’s been running PHP 5, I’ve updated that to 7, now everything works fine. :roll_eyes:
